How to Teach the Use of an Insulin Pen
Explain how to check insulin in the pen before usage. Discuss what type of insulin is in the pen (cloudy or clear) and how that type of insulin is supposed to look. If the insulin is supposed to be clear but is appears cloudy, give directions not to use this insulin. If the patient is using two different insulin pens make sure they are able to tell them apart.
