Performing the airshot (priming) before Injection
Make sure the patient understands that the pen must be primed before each injection. Holding the pen with the needle pointing up, tap the reservoir gently with your finger a few times, and then press the push button as far as it will go and see if a drop of insulin appears at the needle tip. If not, repeat the procedure until a drop of insulin appears. The priming process has finished when the dialing dose has returned to “0”. If no drop appears after 6 airshots, do not use the pen and contact the manufacturer.
